Why go
Las Vegas is famous for the Strip, but some of its best days are spent outside the city in the red-rock desert. Mix big shows and dining with an early-morning trip into the canyons.
What to pin
01The Strip at night The Bellagio fountains and the lights are best seen on foot after dark.
02Fremont Street Old Las Vegas downtown, with its light canopy and classic signs.
03Red Rock Canyon A scenic drive and hiking trails about half an hour west.
04Hoover Dam or Valley of Fire Two easy day trips into the desert.
Where to stay
The center Strip to walk between sights, Downtown for older Vegas, or off-Strip for quiet.
When to go
March to May and October to November. Summer is extremely hot.
Ideal pace
Plan for 3-4 days. Travel slowly enough to notice where you are instead of racing through a checklist.
